My child has been attending ACA for 3 years (K-3) now and he absolutely loves it. I love the family atmosphere. The whole staff is so supportive. It has a comforting, inviting atmosphere and anytime you have questions or concerns the door is always open. They encourage pop ins and communicate with you early on if your child starts to fall behind for any reason. My son has done so well in his academics! I love the fact they let the children earn bucks for doing a great job whether being helpful to another student or academically. They give out free books throughout the year and encourage our kids to do great. Teachers are passionate about seeing their students succeed. They are so great about sharing moments of pride they see within your child their good behaviors and achievements; and they know the importance of getting the parents involved should an issue arise, and do it in a very respectful, approachable manner. The principal Ms Ola has been a gem to the school. She's so encouraging towards to students and speaks with kindness when addressing them and the front desk staff is amazing! They are like a group of second mom's with my son, which speaks volumes!! That's not common with most schools these days.

My experience like any other. It has its highs and lows. I can say I am extremely grateful to be in this community where I was a parent that had availability in being part of my child's learning, so anytime I had a concern, I would come in and I would get the support I needed. My child was very happy with his teachers and staff. Staff is the most important part of a school because as parents we are trusting to leave our children with complete strangers trusting they will assist our children as their own. Im grateful I felt safe entrusting the staff at ACA. The classroom was usually a place where I wished there was more support with the children. I would've wished to see a teacher's assistant because just like there're children that require more one on one and support, there're kids excelling and staying on the same level as other kids, which they were not being challenged enough. Maybe that's an issue to be addressed to the school board and obviously requiring more funding to pay the extra teachers, but I definitely can say that's the only thing I would wish to see more of. The community was unsafe, sadly. Oakland is rising in crime rates and it's not the safest neighborhood. There's a huge gate that remains open, so that was definitely a concern. Yes, there were times where I would see staff walking the parking lot but it wasn't like there was someone assigned to guard the yard while children were in class.
