School Reviews
5   10/16/2014
I currently moved from Fairfield to the Black Rock section after my divorce. I was quite hesitant to send my child to a Bridgeport public school because I have read such terrible things in the paper about the public schools in Bridgeport. However, due to some financial difficulties, I had no choice but to send my child to Black Rock School. I just want everyone to know how wonderful that both I and my child find this school to be. For the first time ever, my child gets up each morning and looks forward to going to school. The days of me having to argue to get him off to school are hopefully behind him. Furthermore, my child is challenged academically and I have noticed a noticeable difference in his reading and writing as well as mathematical abilities. Sadly, due to a lack of funding to the school, there aren't as many extra-curricular activities offered after school or during the school day but I am so thankful to the teachers at this school for helping my child love going to school. I am only writing this review because I want people to have more of an open mind when it comes to the Bridgeport school system. I can only speak about this one school, but I am sure that there are many, many other wonderful schools throughout the district. We as parents need to stop blaming the education system and the teachers for the shortcomings of failing districts and start holding ourselves more accountable. I can honestly say that this little school in this fantastic neighborhood that I am so proud to live in has really changed my mindset. I just want to give a huge "Thank you" to all of the dedicated teachers as well as the principal of this fine school for helping my child to reach his fullest potential.
