What school district is Grapeview Elementary & Middle School part of?
2.3 to 5.3 within one school year. What am I talking about you may ask? 2.3 is the reading grade level my daughter was at in the begining of the school year. 5.3 is the grade level my daughter ended up at by the time the school year was over. Thanks to Grapeview school's dedication and determination my child has gained confidence and enjoys reading.
Grapeview school has this program called stars. The children are sent home a packet of reading homework. At the end of the week the reading homework is sent back to school with the parents initials on the days that the homework is completed. The children are worked with one on one at school as well. Honestly, I know my child got more out of this program at school than she did at home. I think it is unheard of that a school take one child at a time and dedicate that time towards reading.
My middle child had to be held back in second grade. Now you would think this would be traumatic for a child but her second grade teacher made the transition for her very easy. The principal even came in during the conference where we all decided that she should be held back. You do not normally get that hands on with the principal at least not from my previous experinces.
I have never had one issue with bullying even though I admit I worried about that. The school is not that diverse and my children are of mixed race. Not once have I had an issue with that from the staff nor the students.
I would tell any parent that has a child struggling with reading, living in this area, to give this school a shot. I have told everyone that will listen about the unbelievable growth my oldest daughter has gained with her reading. This is a great school with a great dedicated staff.
