I find myself unsure of whether I really do recommend this school or not. I love my sons teacher and think that the education he is receiving is decent. Because of his teacher I guess I would recommend this school. As for the principal and the so called closed campus safety measure is a big fail and because of them I would vote on not recommending this school. I have sent letters to the school and district offices requesting more principal involvement in traffic control. He believes that by standing outside nodding to people he is being involved....definitely not. The school is in a terrible location and the traffic and selfishness of the parents picking and dropping off the students is terrible. When the vice principal is outside directing traffic things run a lot smoother. I just can't understand why the principal doesn't see this and actually help in moving people along. We never see the guy and when we do he's under a tree just standing there. We came from a really great school from a just okay neighborhood and the principal involvement there was amazing. I guess I just expected the same everywhere. I have been so disappointed in this principals involvement or lack there of.
My biggest concern with this school is that adults are allowed inside the school grounds without signing in or at least notifying a school authority. They do lock all of the gates once the bell rings but anyone is allowed on campus until the bell rings. This gives ample time for someone to steal a child or do harm to a child before the bell rings. It bothers me that the principal thought more on my concern not seeing him outside than he did for this even bigger issue of monitering the gates and not allowing parents to walk their children to their classrooms or watch them play on the playgrounds. I don't know what has to happen for this to change but it is such a huge safety issue it suprises me they haven't thought of it. I also believe that because of this huge failure of allowing parents onto campus it increases the traffic. Parents are double and triple parking in order to walk their children to class. There is no traffic monitoring. In every school I have been to and talking to other parents at different schools this has been a principals un-named duty. So, another fail for this principal. If only I knew this before we moved into this school's boudaries. It upsets me to know that my childs safety is so low on their scale of importance.
