School Reviews

My 5 year old son goes to kindergarten here. I've tried multiple times to get in contact with his teacher with questions or concerns and never once received a response from her (and we're coming to the end of the school year). When he was being enrolled, they were trying to transfer extra students over to a smaller (even worse) school, that was too far away for us. We currently walk to school and Mazie Gable is right down the street. The other school was more than two miles away! The man responsible for handling this was so pushy that he tried to convince me we didn't have an option and had to transfer to the other school. I knew this was not the case and was only able to prevent it by calling the principle and making a very big deal out of it. I'm also disgusted by the amount of junk food promotion at this school. I'm not a prude, but in one week, we had a homework sheet where they practiced writing about going to Mcdonalds, Wendys, HEB and Taco Bell, as well as a sheet offering a prize if they eat enough Lucky Charms to get box tops, a sheet where they sorted and ate Lucky Charms at school, and they have all the kids hyped up about going to Chuck E. Cheese to raise money for the PTO (which we can't go to and of course he's miserably disappointed about). This is only in one week. They also get candy almost every day, and their ideas of healthy food are lousy at best. When I contacted the principal she was very combative and basically told me that these activities are good for the kids learning and there is nothing they plan to do about it. Essentially she gave me the cold-shoulder-shrug off, and of course his teacher (who I called first) never responded to me at all.
