School Reviews
5   8/31/2009
Monroe's Principal, Charles Tompkins, has developed a faculty and staff committed to an excellent, classic, elementry education. Our children have excelled there and love going to P.E., art, choir, Friday assembly, and PTA events such as the carnival. It is socioeconomically mixed and also has classes for hearing impaired students which we feel offers opportunity for learning about compassion and diversity and most students and staff learn some sign language. The building is old but and is scheduled for a 3.5 million dollar renovation in 2010 through the city MAPS program. The playground is nice with a lots of fun equipment including a track and 3 heavily-used tetherball poles. The field is huge- perfect for events such as the walk-a-thon and Sports Day at the end of the year. While there is room for improvement, the school is supported by a steady stream of parent and local volunteers, PTA, churches, and neighborhood associations. A great neighborhood school!
