  • PIONEER School for Expeditionary Learning (PIONEER) is an Expeditionary Learning Outward Bound (ELOB) school and is a charter school within the Poudre School District (PSD) for students in grades 7-12. Our classes consist of small, caring learning communities of no more than 20 students per class (crew). The fundamental idea behind ELOB is that students learn more by experiencing the world around them than by sitting in a classroom listening to a teacher. Expeditionary Learning harnesses the child鈥檚 natural passion to learn and is a powerful method for helping children develop the curiosity, knowledge, skills, and personal qualities they need for successful adulthood. Thematic expeditions (long-term units of study) are at the heart of the design. Expeditions last approximately one semester and incorporate curriculum standards with service-learning, adventure, and fieldwork.
