My kids are only 5 and 7 and I saw the writing on the wall about the Swampscott school system as soon as my oldest started kindergarten. A boy in her class would spit in her face and hit her during recess and when I found out through another child what was going on I was so hurt she didn't tell me herself. Her reasoning...'Mommy he does is all the time to the girls and nothing happens so I didn't bother telling you.' She felt defeated by the age of 5! The point is that when I brought it up to the teacher, her response was that 'she knew nothing about it because no one made her aware of what was going on during recess.' His punishment, a time-out during during recess. UNACCEPTABLE!
After that we received drawing with a toilet paper role with a sad face on it. Apparently Swampscott doesn't have toilet paper either in addition to librarians. My son was also on an IEP at the integrated preschool and he was not getting the services that a MGH neurologist recommended. Apparently the 'teachers' over here know better and one said if I really cared about my son I would have attended his speech sessions. When I inquired when they were, the 'Dr.'s' reply was that she likes to switch it up and not have a set day. Hmmmmm......something is not quite right here.
The final straw was Dr. Malone's impassioned speech about the budget. He said 'We will be having the same conversation every year about the budget cuts and if people respond by walking than be my guest.' Thank you Dr. Malone, we did, right to Saint Mary's School in Danvers and never looked back once.
So you see the nonsense begins early on and doesn't stop. I'm not saying that things don't happen at St. Marys but I can assure you they don't continue or you are shown the door. If anyone is interested in talking about the school I would be more than happy to take this off-line. Believe me, it will be the smartest decision you will ever make, especially for a middle school aged child!
