We've been at Yu Ming for 3 years and have had a great experience so far. My kid loves his community of friends and his teachers and is speaking and reading in Chinese, which is not a language we speak at home. My mind is blown daily by how much he has learned! As someone else previously mentioned, there is a lot of coursework. And my kid is not the type to stay on top of all of that coursework. But the teachers and school have fully supported us anyway! We reached out with our concerns about falling behind and they have supported my kiddo, giving him extra time and extra instruction to make sure he isn't falling further behind. And he is so proud of what he has accomplished, which says so much. I fully recommend Yu Ming to prospective families. It has been a great experience for us.

We have been at Yu Ming for 3 years. Head of School Principals and some teachers do not care. The teachers do not have the experience to handle certain early childhood developmental stages. The good teachers have left with the founding parents/students that have graduated. They are good politicians and are definitely having growing pains. They run a tight and cold corporate-like ship and if your kid doesn't fall in line with their rules and mountain of homework/curriculum, your child will fall off the radar. If your child likes to be a follower and not a leader, this school will fit your child just fine. If you're looking for a school with nurturing teachers that actually care about their students as humans, then this school is not for you.

We have three children attending Yu Ming and have been with the school for the past 7 years. It has been an amazing experience and I feel incredibly fortunate that our children are receiving this high quality education for free. All three have become fluent in speaking, reading and writing Chinese, and with parents who know no Mandarin. They are also strong in math and English, and most importantly, they're very happy and enjoy going to school every day (prior to COVID) with their friends and teachers. We've found the teachers and administrators to be caring and proactive with issues that come up and constantly looking for ways to improve. It's a smaller, growing school so it has characteristics in-line with this: there aren't as many schools sports teams or extracurricular activities as you'd have at a school with more students, parent involvement is critical for certain activities/ programs to exist and can/ do go away when no one steps up, the kids grow up a little more sheltered than if they were at a larger school. Overall, we won the literal and figurative lottery getting into Yu Ming and I'd recommend it to any parents.

Although there are quite a lot of good teachers, but there are many bad teachers here. For example, one comes to school even though she is coughing badly (And it is even the COVID-19 time to make matters worse) They are very unfair and the classes they teach are bad quality. The principals are also very bad. Their leadership skill is terrible, and they are also very selfish. For example, the principals assigned the Chinese teacher to teach us history, and the Chinese teacher doesn't even follow the history CCSS for California. Also, this school lies a lot. They only care about the performance of the students but they say they care more. The software they use is also very messed up and rigged, there are a lot of loopholes and ways students could cheat. So I think that this school shouldn't get the blue ribbon.
